Day 1

Departure for Tbilisi

Day 2 - Tbilisi

Arrive in Tbilisi, transfer to the hotel and free time. After breakfast Tbilisi sightseeing program. Visit Old Tbilisi: Metekhi Church (13th century) overlooking the river Mtkvari with the statue of the founder of Tbilisi (King Vakhtang Gorgasali) in front; Narikala Fortress, one of the oldest fortifications in the city (4th century); Sulphur Baths; Synagogue; Sioni Cathedral (6-7th century), in this cathedral the cross of St. Nino – the woman who brought Christianity to Georgia – is preserved. All these sights are very close to each other and it’s a pleasant walk. Visit the Treasury of State Museum. Afterwards walk along Rustaveli Avenue, the main street in Tbilisi.

Day 3 - Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Gudauri

Visit the ancient capital and religious center of Georgia - Mtskheta (3000 years old) and see its historical places: Jvari church (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century) where the Robe of Christ is buried. Both Jvari and Svetitskhoveli are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Then drive up the famous Georgian Military Highway (leading to the Georgian-Russian border). On the way visit Ananuri architectural complex (17th century). The two churches and the fortress overlook the Zhinvali reservoir. The drive is very scenic through high Caucasus Mountains. Overnight in a hotel in Gudauri (2000m, ski resort).

Day 4 - Gudauri – Kazbegi – Gudauri

Drive from Gudauri to Kazbegi – the main town in the region. Arrive in Kazbegi and afterwards walk up for about 1,5 hour through beautiful valleys and forests to the Gergeti Trinity church (14th century) located on top of the mountain (2170m). Tourists will also have a chance to enjoy the view of one of the highest glaciers of the Caucasus - Kazbegi (5047m). Then drive to the through picturesque Dariali Gorge. In the evening return to Gudauri.

Day 5 - Gudauri – Kutaisi

From Gudauri we drive to Kutaisi – the second largest city in the country. The sights in and around Kutaisi are certainly worth visiting. We visit Gelati Monastery and academy (12th century), and the splendid Bagrati Cathedral ruins (11th century). Both Gelati and Bagrati Cathedral are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Overnight.

Day 6 - Kutaisi – Gori – Tbilisi

We drive to the town of Gori - the heart of the Kartli region and its historical places: the Stalin Museum and Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium BC), that’s the place where the Great Silk Road used to pass. This is an old and interesting complex with dwelling quarters, wine cellars, bakeries and even an antique theatre. In the evening return to Tbilisi.

Day 7 - Tbilisi – David Gareja – Telavi

On this day we will visit another cave town in Kakheti region – David Gareja. It consists of 19 monasteries. It was established in the 6th century by one of the 13 Syrian fathers – David. First we will see Lavra Monastery (6th century) and then walk up (50 minutes) to Udabno Monastery (13th century) to see wonderful 13th century frescos in the refectory and the main church (all carved in rock). In the evening arrive in Telavi and dine and overnight.

Day 8 - Telavi – Tbilisi

We travel to Kakheti region which is known as wine growing region and visit historical places: an amazing Old Shuamta Monastery (6-7th centuries) which is located in beautiful virgin nature between the mountains and Alaverdi Cathedral (11th century). Then visit to the wine factory to taste the delicious local wines. Lunch to the Kakhetian family. After lunch visit the unique, 300 years old winery of the farmer in the local village where we will have a possibility to taste the typical wines. In the evening arrive in Tbilisi.

Departure. Early in the morning transfer to the airport and departure.
